The story:

They were deadly on the ground. Now they have wings.

Cameron Poe (Nicolas Cage) is a prison parolee hitching a ride back home to his wife and daughter on a maxium security transport plane. The plane is hijacked by it's occupants which include some of the most notorious criminals of all time, and masterminded by Cyrus "the Virus" Grissom (John Malkovich) and his unlikely partner Diamond Dog (Ving Rhames). Cameron finds himself in the line of fire and fights to keep the criminals from killing those on board. Help is at hand on the ground as Government agent Vince Larkin (John Cusack) desperately tried to save lives as the plane heads towards a forced landing on the Las Vegas Strip!

The summary:

Quite possibly THE action movie of 1997, this films success is thanks to the great stunts and special effects and the wonderful criminal characters on board the plane. As you'd expect, John Malkavich is excellent as the mastermind Cyrus the Virus (what a great name!) and Buscemi, as always, is the most dangerous convict interlect on board, Garland Green. This is one of Cage's better roles even with his utterly fake (leave the bunny alone!) southern accent. There are some great special effects in here which are nicely transferred in all their glory to DVD. This fim is no classic and should be treated as entertainment not reality, but for thrills 'n spills this is a good buy. No extras, but the region 1 version only includes a trailer and a teaser trailer.

Extras:

* None!!!

Our Verdict...

A nice idea and full marks for fun (albeit violent fun!). This is pure adrenaline-charged entertainment. 8/10

A nice looking grain free picture for this early release.
9/10

As with Air Force One, the plane-based action makes good use of sound effects. 9/10

No extras whatsoever but this was an early R2 release. That almost sounds like an excuse... 0/10
