The
story:
This
is the reality "game show" phenomenon of the new
millenium. The British version of the show, in its second
outing, saw eleven people put together in the Big Brother
house for two riveting months. Every nuance of their behaviour
and the events that unfurled where there for your delectation
and scrutiny. The truly innovative experience was captured
night and day on Channel 4, E4 and interactive digital TV.
The
summary:
Of
all the reality shows of late, Big Brother is certainly
the one that has captured the attention of the public and
gained considerable notoriety. The brainchild of Dutch company,
Endemol entertainment the reality show places ten "contestants"
in a house for two months together. No contact is allowed
with the outside world and they are filmed 24 hours a day
during their stay. Once a week each house member must nominate
two people that they would like evicted from the house.
The people with the most votes are nominated for that week
and the public vote on who will be evicted. The last person
left in the house is the winner and becomes £70,000
richer. This is the show that has made its creators a fortune
and has been syndicated across the world with Swedish, French,
American and countless other versions.
This
was the second series of Big Brother and with it brought
a wealth of improvements. Firstly the house was given a
million pound makeover transforming it into a much more
luxurious surrounding and bringing with it a new cosy den
that had a wealth of different possibilities. Secondly series
2 saw Big Brother entering the interactive arena with almost
24 hour coverage and instant updates and news on the days
events.
As
per the original it was screened daily on Channel 4. However,
with the advent of Digital TV it was shown for almost 18
hours a day on sister channel E4. Also it was available
as an interactive feature of E4 so you could catch up on
it when (god forbid) it was not being shown live so that
no aspect of the housemates day could be missed by the voyeur
in all of us. Big Brothers Little Brother was another improvement.
Spawned on E4 this was a daily show that gave updates on
news & events in the house that day as well as featuring
all the evictees as guest presenters. The last major difference
was that after the first eviction the housemates were actually
greeted with another new housemate, voted for by the public
and ushered in under strict security. This brought the total
to 11 very different people.
The
show brought with it upheaval and fireworks as the eleven
contestants interacted, bonded and bitched. There were many
classic moments and this DVD is a compilation of all the
best bits of the two months during the summer. Everyone
will have their favourite but who can forget Bubbles spectacular
injury, Stuarts arguments or the Helenisms. Sit back and
reminisce the highlights plus all new unseen footage on
this uncut edition.
The
DVD itself is quite an impressive package from Channel 4/Endemol.
It makes full use of the sound and picture quality and includes
a good level of impressive extra's. Overall love it or hate
it this will be something that you will want to watch.
