The story:

Aiiiiiii !

With all the best bits from Da Ali G Show this is a 100 minute compilation, including 30 minutes of previously unseen and uncensored footage. Watch as Ali brings his own brand of streetwise humour to interviews with Gail Porter, Paul Daniels and Mohammed Al Fayed and conducts his legendary discussion groups on subjects ranging from politics to teenage pregnancies.

The summary:

Of the many comic creations of the last few years none have been as cutting edge or as outrageous as Sacha Baron Cohen's creation Ali G. Taking over from where Dennis Pennis left off and spoofing the world of gangsta rappers and black dialect, Ali G is a comedy masterpiece who has managed to etch himself onto the nations subconscious. His early efforts consisted of unsuspecting politicians, chief execs and dignitaries being interviewed with such legendary questions (when put to the head of the BBFC) as "should there be a rating that guarantee's Muff". This was born on the cult news parody "the eleven o'clock show" and after out growing his audience Cohen was given his own show. Da Ali G show mixed the same in your face interviews with skits, songs and a new star by the name of Borat (also played by Cohen) an obscure kazhakstani reporter learning English culture for a little known satellite station - all with brilliant results. The show made Ali G a bigger star than ever and even prompted Madonna to include him in the video to "Music". This DVD release highlights the show and also includes over 30 minutes of extra footage not shown for various reasons on TV. The previous release of all the interviews from the Eleven O'Clock show is still the best example of Ali G but this DVD does give it a run for its money and is still very, very funny. My particular favourite is when Ali visits the Cannes Porn festival in search of a "nobbing".

The DVD itself is of commendable quality for a TV show and offers very high quality pictures and good Dolby Digital stereo. The extra's are slightly limited and it would have been nice to include slightly more than the video release. You get Ali G's Christmas message and a hidden extra that sees Cohen playing a camp Austrian reporter. On the whole if you like Ali G this will be a must have for your collection. If you have never heard or seen him then its still worthy of a look - you won't regret it.

Extras:

* Ali G's Christmas Message - Channel 4 aired this at the same time as the Queens speech on Christmas Day 1999 and it offers a hilarious alternative message to the nation in the Staines messiah's own special way.

* Hidden feature - Accessed from highlighting and clicking the Ali G logo on the main screen you are treated to a 3 minute report from Cohen playing a camp Austrian TV presenter at a London Rock Concert - Very funny.

Our Verdict...

Ali G has etched himself into superstardom and Sacha Baron Cohen excels in this wickedly funny compilation. Marginally less funny than the previous video only release but still a classic. 8.5/10

A good picture which looks very rich indeed. Well presented in anamorphic widescreen and near broadcast quality. 9/10

Audio is adequate and ultimately what you would expect from a TV show. DolbyDigital stereo used throughout and carries the comedy well with clear speech and effects. 7/10

Extras are limited to Ali G's Christmas Message from 1999 and a hidden extra that sees Sacha Baron Cohen taking on the role of a camp Austrian reporter. Could have been more outtakes and perhaps some 11 o'clock show stuff. 3/10
