Reviews - How do we rate them?

Well for starters, we try to be fair with each disc we watch. If a good film has some bad points then we'll make a note and put it in the review. And to be fair, if a bad film has some good points, then again we will mention it and the score will be adjusted accordingly. This is how a seeming bad film that only scores 3 may get an overall score of 40 - 45. However, the most important part of the DVD is the film. It's hopefully the reason you bought the disc and why our scoring system is weighted towards the film score. Therefore a DVD with a shoddy film cannot score too high a percentage no matter how well it was all packaged together.

The scores for picture and sound are based on our judgement, and using our own home cinema equipment. We rate it as we see/hear it and it will hopefully be accurate. But all home cinema set-ups differ. We don't have the same hardware as you have, so if what sounds good to us doesn't sound good on your equipment, then that's just how it goes..

It's also worth mentioning that whilst we may note problems such as lip-sync in a review, these problems may not occur on all hardware. If the problems have been widely reported as machine specific then we will not hold it against the DVD in the review. If however the problem occurs on the majority of players, then the problem clearly lies with the disc and will be marked down accordingly.

These reviews should be used for guidence only. We hope you find them informative and useful in selecting your next DVD purchase but do remember that each review is just based on our opinion - and it may differ wildly to your own!
